Feeling Sentimental

I’ll be the first to admit that I love making cards that are girly – pinks, purples, ribbons, lace and vintage in style, but I also really enjoy making masculine cards.
A lot of people have commented that they struggle with making cards for the men in their lives, so this year I plan to share with you lots of tips and ideas for male cards, and hopefully some inspiration too 🙂

This particular card uses the new Sale-a-Bration stamp set called Feeling Sentimental, and it is great for masculine cards.  I am also going to enter this card in this week’s Paper Players challenge #129, which is a sketch challenge.  Pop on over to their site, lots of inspiration for you!

So, my first tip for making masculine cards is, don’t be afraid to use patterned papers, as I have done in this card.  I have used the Howlstooth & Scaringbone DSP here, which is perfect, but don’t forget to look at the packs of papers you already have.  Stampin’ Up! are fabulous when it comes to incorporating all sorts of possibilities, so have a look through those flowery papers and look for stripes, spots, even what may seem like a girlish pattern, could be cut so that it changes it’s look. How about some of those Christmas papers?  Red or green stripes or spots or patterns could easily be turned into a background for a tree or other masculine image.
Let’s see if I can give you an example…. The Twitterpated DSP is a lovely flowery, pretty pack of papers, but have a look at the reverse side of each paper.  Green and blue checks… stripes…. geometric designs in grey, and a red geometric pattern that could easily be cut to look masculine.

For my card, I have die cut the patterned paper using the Window Frames Collection, and then layered that over my stamped image.  This particular patterned paper is only available for a few more days, so make sure you get in quick if you want to get hold of some!

Happy Stamping!

Dynamic Duos #35

Gorgeous colours again this week for the Dynamic Duos challenge, and here is the third card in my Bordering on Romance set that I shared in my previous post.

I have used mostly So Saffron with just a hint of Certainly Celery on the leaves.

The sprays of flowers have been cut out by hand and then lifted off the card with dimensional tape.  And this time, instead of lots of faux stitching, I have just done lots of paper piercing 🙂 it does create a completely different effect.  The greeting is from the Perfectly Penned stamp set.

Lots of inspiration from the rest of the Design Team, which you can see here.
Hope you are having a crafty and productive weekend.  I know I am! 🙂
Happy stamping!

A New challenge

If you are a follower of my blog, you will know how much I love a challenge… whether that’s a colour challenge or sketch challenge, or any other challenge for that matter!  So I love it when I find a new challenge site, especially one which is being run by two very talented stampers, Bronwyn Eastley and Kathy Tanner.  So of course, I just had to take part in the first challenge at Still AddINKtive which is both a sketch and colour challenge.  Love it!

I have made a card for a friend whose birthday is later this week, and since she loves stitching, and I love doing it on my projects, I added lots of  faux stitching!

My card uses the Betsy’s Blossoms stamp set and some patterned papers from Floral District Designer Series Papers. Add to that a greeting from the Itty Bitty Banners set and some pretty pearls, and that’s it!  Quite simple really.
This is such a pretty colour combination, why don’t you give it a go?

Happy stamping!
Chris

I am thrilled to let you know that my card was chosen as a Top Pick for this challenge, and I also won a prize!  I am feeling very lucky! 🙂  Thanks Bronwyn and Kathy.

Happy Birthday to my boy!

Today is Jamie’s 7th birthday, can’t believe how quickly the years have flown by!  Despite being a very hot 37degrees here today (that’s around 98.5 deg) we had a lovely picnic lunch in the park with friends.  And of course the hot afternoon means that it is perfect weather for staying inside and…. crafting, of course! 🙂

I made Jamie’s birthday card using this week’s Mojo Monday sketch:

zMojo274Sketch

I have used the I Dig You stamp set, and the greeting from Wacky Wishes (Hostess Set).

Jamie loved the idea of the digger putting lots of presents in the back of the dump truck, just for him!

Best get back to the birthday boy!

Stampin’ Royalty Challenge #156

I thought it was time I did some stamping for the enjoyment of it, so I have gone looking at some of the challenge sites that I used to frequent regularly, and today I have made a card for the latest challenge from Stampin’ Royalty.

Here is the sketch:

And here is the card I have made:

I have a few bits and pieces which arrived just before my move, and which have not been used, so definitely time to start using some of them 🙂  I have used the Summer Afternoon Hostess stamp set along with some of the Fan Fair patterned papers, which are just gorgeous!

I will be back over the next few days with more creations and with some updates for classes etc for the new year.  In the meantime, happy stamping!

Purple and Silver

This week at Our Creative Corner it is my turn to set the challenge, and I have chosen a colour theme, using my favourite colour Purple, along with Silver, you can use other colours as well, just as long as purple and silver are the feature colours for your project.  Our Creative Corner will taking a break over Christmas and it is our last challenge before our break, so lets make it a Christmas project as well.

I have had fun with the Big Shot and embossing this week on my card.  I have used a stamp from the Ornament Keepsakes stamp set which I have heat embossed with silver powder onto Elegant Eggplant card stock and then cut out with the Holiday Ornaments Dies.  The silver layer is some of the gorgeous Glimmer paper cut using the Apothecary Accents Framelits, and for the white layer I have used the Adorning Accents Edgelits and the Lacy Brocade Embossing Folder.  The greeting comes from the Teeny Tiny Sentiments Stamp Set and I have used a little bit of Pink Pirouette card stock for some interest and some non-Stampin’ Up! ribbon that I found in my stash!

Happy Stamping!

Dynamic Duos #32

Some nice, pretty girly colours today, so I made a nice, pretty girly card! 🙂
I have used a layout for this card that I found, well, some where on the internet when I was blog hopping… anyway, I thought it would work well with some swirls and flowers and here is the end result….

The stamp sets I have used are Field Flowers, Perfectly Penned and Elements of Style, along with some pink Seam Binding Ribbon (Non Stampin’ Up!) and white Baker’s Twine and a button.
This is a very pretty colour combination, and could work well for Christmas if you are busy making Christmas cards.  So feel free to join us this week, and you can check out what the rest of the Design Team have come up with here.
Have a crafty weekend.  Happy Stamping!

Our Creative Corner Santa Challenge

So, my second card for the week… yes, I did…. this time though, I had a few more supplies.

This week’s challenge at Our Creative Corner, is to make a vintage style card or project which uses a Santa Claus image, along with some red, such as a red button, brad or ribbon.
For my Santa image, I have used a free image from this site  which I printed onto Very Vanilla card stock.  I have then sponged, and done some red zig zag faux stitching around the edge.  Ah, yes, you guessed it, my sewing machine is still packed!

I have used some Be of Good Cheer Patterned Paper in the background, along with some tulle, seam binding ribbon and of course, a gorgeous Vintage Brad and some half backed pearls.
And up in the top corner you will see a little Merry Christmas, this is from the For The Birds stamp set, I have just used my marker to ink up the greeting without the bird.
Check out the rest of Santa inspired projects from the Design Team this week, and please join in the fun, we love seeing your projects.
Happy stamping!

Beautiful Butterflies

I love Papillon Potpourri stamp set, such beautiful butterflies!
And I have seen this idea around on the net in a few places so thought I would make a couple of different ones.  What I really wanted to do was to show you just how easy it is to change a couple of elements and come up with a completely different card.

So, as you can see, I have change the colours, the first card uses Midnight Muse, Cajun Craze and Summer Starfruit.

I used a different piece of patterned paper, although both are from the Comfort Cafe Designer Series Paper.  The greetings on both cards are from the Curly Cute set.

The colours in the second card are Whisteria Wonder, Pool Party and So Saffron.

I have also used a different butterfly to achieve a different look, but both are from the Papillon Potpourri stamp set.

I like this design, I think I will make a Christmas card using it 🙂

I also want to let all of my lovely followers know that there are going to be some pretty major changes going on over the next couple of months. My son and I have decided that it is time to move back home to Canberra.  We have started packing,  but we don’t have an exact date to move yet, but imagine it will take place before Christmas.  So I will attempt to continue to craft and blog over that time, but I hope you will understand if it’s not as frequent as it has been.

Happy Stamping!

Freshly Made Sketches #57

I have made a Christmas card for this week’s sketch from Freshly Made Sketches. I am really enjoying getting into the spirit of Christmas this year, I have done a lot of Christmas shopping already, so thought it would be good to get started on some Christmas cards too.

I have made quite a few of these ornaments, to go on some Candy Canes to hang on the Christmas tree, and as I was making them, I thought how nice they would look on a card, and here is the result.  I will show you the Candy Canes in another post.
The card uses the Candlelight Christmas Specialty Papers, and the Lacy Brocade Embossing Folder.  And for the ornament I have used the Snow Flurry die, Real Red Glimmer Paper punched out with the scallop circle punch, and the greeting comes from the Mixed Medley hostess set.
Here is the sketch:

Happy Stamping!
