New Beginnings

Happy New Year to each and every one of you. Thank you for continuing to follow my blog posts (despite them being few and far between at present), and I hope 2018 is an awesome year for you.

It’s still holidays here in Australia, it’s summer, it’s hot, and it’s when our children have a long break from school. So heaps of beach time!!

As a result, I am just a little late with this post for The Male Room‘s current challenge. I thought I had everything organised before Christmas but somehow I managed to miss this one.

New Beginnings. I’m not into New Years Resolutions, nevertheless, this time of year always feels like time for regenerating, re-organising and just starting afresh. And my beautiful son celebrates his birthday at this time too. I can’t believe he is 12 already!!

I made him a different birthday card this year, one that I think resonates with him, and what we plan for the coming year.


I have mainly used retired bits and pieces that I’ve put together in his favourite colours, green, and the wood textures and colours.  Oh and I can’t forget that gorgeous black metal bird from my Kaszazz stash. Love it!!

Merry Christmas from The Male Room

Of course we had to have a Christmas challenge at The Male Room, although there are other options for your project this time, too, such as Winter Wishes or a different December Celebration.  

I chose a Christmas card though, since it’s the middle of summer here in Australia, and our main celebration is Christmas, so I have plenty of people I can give a Christmas card to.


I’ve kept this one fairly simple, using a printed music patterned paper for the background, and some gold stars over the black strip of cardstock.  I think this design would work well with all sorts of different colours and background papers.  I might have a play with some more like this one!

Vellum Challenge

This fortnight at The Male Room, we are using Vellum on our projects.


I have used Vellum as a layer over the top of some patterned paper. First though, I ran the Vellum through with an embossing folder to give it some texture.  

The gorgeous vintage picture of Santa in a vintage car is from some retired Kaszazz patterned paper. Such a gorgeous image!!

The Male Room Paper Piecing Challenge

This fortnight at The Male Room we have a paper piecing challenge.

I have come across a few different ways of doing paper piecing over the last few years and thought I would do something a little different with my card this week.

I have used this gorgeous Butterfly Die, and cut four different butterflies in four colours, firstly with the black as my outline, and then one in each of the different shades of green and blue.  Instead of using the shape of the butterfly, I have used the small pieces that have been cut from inside the die shape and stuck them into the spaces of my black butterfly, creating the colourful butterfly.
It was a little time consuming, but worth it in the end.

The Male Room Design Team

I finally get to share my exciting news with the world!! I have been accepted back as part of the wonderful Design Team with The Male Room.

I was a member of this great team in the past and needed a break, but it is wonderful to have been accepted back and I look forward to lots of fun challenges coming your way.
So without further ado, lets get into the challenge, which is, to use a Silhouette on your project.

My card uses that typically Australian image of a Windmill.  I love this stamp from Kaszazz, so many great masculine ideas for it.

For the background I have used some Distress Oxide inks, Vintage Photo, Fired Brick, Spiced Marmalade and Fossilized Amber.  Distress Oxides are designed to react with water and are awesome for creating this type of background or watercolour effects.  So much fun!!

Playing along in a Challenge

It’s been a very long time since I joined in with a cardmaking challenge, so what better way to get back into it, than to join in with The Male Room.  At one stage, I was member of the Design Team with this great group of ladies, so it’s lovely to join in again with them.
The current challenge is to use Dies on a project, and I have chosen a simple card, using the Kaszazz Hexagon Dies.


The fabulous patterned papers are a collection, again from Kaszazz, from the Industrial collection, the background looks like an old Aussie traditional tin roof!  The Hexagons are cut from another piece of patterned papers, and they have just been sponged with black ink.

Well, that’s me done for today, it is good to be feeling creative and have some mojo happening again, and I have more to share with you real soon.

Red and Blue and Green

The current challenge at The Male Room is to use the colours Red and Blue in your project, and add one other colour.  I chose green, I like this lovely bright colour combination for masculine cards.

I chose to keep my card fairly simple this time and have used one of the gorgeous papers from the Serene Scenery paper stack as my background.  Very serene! 🙂

The cute sailing boat is part of the Swirly Bird stamp set.  I have coloured the stamps of the different parts of the boat with markers, and then fussy cute them.  The sentiment is an old one from a retired stamp set, again I have inked up the different letters with different coloured markers.

Masculine Flowers

A new challenge at The Male Room today, is to make flowers masculine!

“We want you to use flowers and make them masculine! I guess this could be seen as something of a challenge! Oh yes, it is!!!! Remember you can make any type of paper craft project – card, ATC, tag, scrapbook layout, 3D – it’s entirely up to you. But it must be masculine in style and feature FLOWERS.”
Hmmmm yep, definitely a challenge!

My card uses the flower image from Butterfly Basics stamp set, which I have inked up in Soft Suede, and then mounted on some masculine coloured layers.

Masculine Crafty Boots!

This week’s challenge at Crafty Boots Challenges is to make a Masculine project.  Ah hah… my specialty!
Yep, I really enjoy making those masculine cards, although I know plenty of you find it a challenge, so I hope you will find some inspiration this week.

I wanted to use these gorgeous new papers, I thought this particular one looked a little “spacey”.
So I combined it with a now retired stamp set, called Blast Off.  The papers come from the Playful Palette Designer Series Paper Stack.
I hope you will forgive the slightly blurry photo, we have had so much rain over the last week or so, that it has been difficult to get a good photo, but you get the picture!! Haha…..

Combat Cards

It has been pouring with rain here today, in fact this little town is on flood watch. What better excuse do you need than to sit inside and make some cards?

I have been doing a lot of sorting and tidying and trying to use up a lot of my retired papers and bits and pieces, and I have been using some of these to make some cards to send off to our troops stationed overseas through Combat Cards.  Father’s Day cards are what they are wanting at present, so here are a couple I made today.
